A black-and-white architectural study made on the first outing with the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L, using controlled perspective and an expressive sky to give the familiar building a more dramatic presence.

A first study with a perspective-control lens
This photograph was made during my first session with the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L. The lens encourages a slower way of working: level the camera, set the composition carefully and use shift to include the height of the building without forcing the verticals to lean.
The church, headstones and path create three layers through the frame. Converting the finished image to black and white brought those shapes together and let the broken cloud become part of the architecture rather than simply a background.
